Before learning web development in 2019, I was an artist/painter and showed my art in several fine art galleries in Georgia. I also studied art in college and spent years drawing and painting. Over time, I began to see many parallels between art, design and web development and I believe each activity is a great “cross trainer” for the other activities.

Cross Training in Sports

As humans, we naturally gravitate towards certain activities and I think a few of the factors that lead us in that direction stem from the talents we’re born with, skills we develop and our environment and upbringing.

Certain activities also complement one another really well and can serve as cross trainers for each activity. For example, if you’re a tennis player, more than likely you’re also an avid runner, swimmer or hiker. The activity of running or swimming help increase your aerobic health, stamina, lung capacity and overall fitness which are all needed to become a good tennis player. Daily yoga can help a tennis player become more flexible and reduce risks of injury while meditation sessions can help with regulating stress and being able to focus on the present moment. Both are crucial in becoming a great tennis player.

Cross Training in Web Design & Development

Some design concepts and 'rules' in composition apply to both art making and web design.
